First weeks of April

Dear St Croix families,

It has been amazing since the return from Spring break. The students are so clear in what they want and need to do, so determined and so able to talk about their needs.  We are already beginning to talk about how we are almost second years! I don’t think they actually realize how little time is left before summer vacation begins.

We see spontaneous writing, reading, cleaning, painting and math work! The children are choosing nearly entirely on their own and making creative and productive choices. It is so fun to witness. Nowadays, our library books are providing a source for research and projects, reading material for content and pictures and text to draw or copy. We can see their terrific academic growth just by seeing how they interact with the library books each day. It used to be, much earlier in the year, that the library books were just passive objects in front of them. Now, they read them, read them to each other, to the class, and squeeze lots of information from them. Thank you for providing these – it is truly a gift to have you do this for us.

Another sign of their growth is the diversity of projects they come up with and how they apply their knowledge. It can range from sewing a pillow to using oil pastels to make map. We have seen several posters in these past few weeks, multiple booklets and many maps. They now know how to manage a project and need us less and less to support them. Please enjoy seeing all the projects in these pictures below.

Our new French song is : Sur le pont d’Avignon. We don’t use this music but it will give you the tune ! J

A special welcome to Liza Roquet. She has made a great transition into the classroom and all the students have made efforts to befriend her.

Finally, THANK YOU for all the terrific wish list items you are gifting us. It really does mean a great deal to us and we are using them as soon as we get them.

We have a little plan for the end of year but we will wait until its all in order and then we will fill you in.

Thank you for your trust with your most precious treasures - your children.
