Last Post of the year :(

We had a wonderful last two weeks of school, packing, washing backpacks and lunch boxes, writing letters, walking field trips and flag making!

For the St. Croix Flag, we made two teams: the design/ planning team and execution/doing team. Nearly all the students placed themselves exactly on the team we believed their strengths lay. It was fun to see them know themselves. We will continue to sew more on the back side of the flag next fall, making it even more our own. So far, it has a big bright sun, a river, a sting ray and a French flag. Since we always tell them St. Croix is also the name of an island in the Caribbean, we want to put palm trees on there too!

 Sewing and more sewing!
Working together!

It was a sweet process and is an on-going project. It will be fun to pick up in the Fall right where we left off.

The task of washing personal belongings was VERY popular with some students. I highly recommend you have them wash other backpacks or canvas bags, tents and other gear.

They worked together, sharing the work and were rather amazed at how dirty the water was!!

They absolutely loved it - especially the outcome. :)

Most of the students wrote special letters to you!
We will mail them from school tomorrow. Be on the lookout for a sweet note from your child.
It was again a testament to how much they have grown since this
activity in February took a REALLY long time to execute! Now, they
have the hang of writing personal letters. :)

Pool day was  huge success! The rain held off and they had fun all day long!

We had some homemade snacks near the end of school. One geometry challenge was to figure out how to cut an oval apple wheat bran cake into 14 equal pieces! We learned we need to do some more of these kinds of spatial lessons since they found it very difficult :)

Finally, on Thursday, we cleaned out our cubbies and put things in paper bags that you have certainly already seen. We had a paper bag labeled "Kateri" and I told them I would hold on to anything they wanted to have again in the fall. So if you do not see a pencil case, notebooks or other work items, I have them in safe keeping. We reminded them how fun it is to return and see your work from last year!

Field day was also great fun. We walked to Como Park and played on McMurry Field. The events were organized, directed and run by the senior class.  Parachute, bubbles, frisbee ... running around!

Face painting  of mustaches!

These past two weeks, we have been celebrating our friends who have summer birthdays.

We got a handwritten invitation from the Clearwater River classroom to attend a play. The students did a great job and enjoyed it as well.

On the last morning, we recorded our French songs and we measured the students. We noted their height and we will measure them again when they return in the fall! It will be so fun to see how much they have grown!
They really enjoyed this measuring activity! :)

At our last Community Gathering we acknowledged each child for the gift they have brought us throughout the year.
Here is the list:
Liv May: diligence
Lucia: caring
Humphrey: perseverance
Max; charisma
Syris: focus
Imogen: patience
Oliver: open-mindedness
Arno: wisdom
Liza: flexibility
Prairie: creativity
Eleanore: singing
Olive: curiosity

The French songs have been put on Google Drive in a shared folder. All should have access but, there might be some glitches like we had with the shared Google sign up for the Work Share. The solution was simply to email me and ask for access and I sent it again - seems to solve the problem.
I can also send it directly to you from my phone if we have any other issues.

It has been SUCH A PLEASURE working and learning with your earthly treasures  - your children.
Thank you for the incredible gift certificates, goodies and hugs of safe and fun summer vacations.

The dates for Reading at the Library followed by Ice cream will come in an email in the next day or so. I need to check with Jennifer - our awesome Parent Ambassador - about which libraries to select as I am not so familiar with the Twin Cities library system yet :) I hope you and your child can make any one of the reading dates - it will be fun to connect over the summer. If not, please do not worry.

Thank you again and have a wonderful summer filled with joy and rest.

Peace,

Kateri and Julian
